Local news
Christine will be showing some of her paintings at the Geoffrey Whitworth Theatre, (Crayford, Kent) production of Amy's View in May. She was also commissioned to undertake paintings to go on the set. She said she was a little concerned that as the artist (in the play) was no longer living, were these the paintings the family couldn't bear to part with - or were they the ones they simply couldn't sell!!
February 2003 Three paintings are currently on display in the Dashwood Gallery at Hall Place as part of the Arts Council Open Art Exhibition. The exhibition is running from 18th January until 01 March 2003. Entrance is free. Christine's paintings being exhibited are - Dartford Bridge , The Music Room and Trees in the Quad. November 2002 Chapel
Gallery, Hall Place, Bexley, Kent. OPPORTUNITY
TO SEE WORK OF CELEBRATED LOCAL ARTIST
An
showcase of work by Christine Angell will be in the Chapel Gallery at
Hall Place from Saturday 30th November until Thursday 19th
December 2002. It is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 4.15pm.
Free Entry. The
exhibition entitled called Mrs Angell’s Pictures will feature paintings in oil, acrylic,
watercolour, pastels and mixed media.
One of the exhibits will be Christine's winning entry from
Channel 4’s Watercolour Challenge programme. In
a variety of mixed media, Christine Angell’s work is energetic, lively
and full of colour. Christine
has been painting and drawing for a long time, in spite of having no
formal art training. Her
inspiration comes from a variety of landscapes, people and situations. As
active member of Erith Playhouse means she has access to very large
canvasses in the shape of scenery, and many different characters and
situations as they are acted out on the stage.
She often designs and paints sets, directs plays and can
sometimes be seen in the occasional play or musical.
Currently she is directing Cinderella the forthcoming family
pantomime which starts on 4th January 2003.
"I
find the theatre truly inspiring with each show being such an exciting
venture, and I try to encapsulate that air of theatricality in all my
paintings", comments Christine.
Christine
works for Bexley Council, supporting parents of children with special
educational needs. Although
she is taking some time off from that work to be an ‘artist in
residence’ at Hall Place each Wednesday the exhibition is running.
Christine’s
most recent painting experience was creating a triptych (set of three
paintings) for the Stage Door entrance at Erith Playhouse to inspire all
those who enter! Christine
enjoys painting in oils, acrylics, pastels, silk, glass paints,
watercolour, gouache, and mixed media.
Each having their own special quality, she feels it is wonderful
to have such a selection of materials to chose from.
"I
feel there is beauty and art all around us, all of the time, and any
topic can produce some exciting and new challenge for an artist if you
look long and hard enough", says Christine.
"For example one of my paintings is inspired by the Dartford
Bridge. This exciting edifice makes the entrance to Kent look an
exhilarating place to visit." She
sketches everywhere, if you visit Hall Place you may well be caught in
her artistic gaze, and find yourself in a future work of art. |
